Chemical cluster is one of the leading and basic trends of the region’s economy. It makes up 12% of the region’s industrial production output. Samara Region produces almost the 5-th of overall Russian output of synthetic ammonia and rubber, synthetic gums, plastic, over 4% of artificial fertilizers.
The share of employed and the share of the branch’s production output in the industry structure 2 times exceeds average indicators for the whole of Russia. This is one of strongly pronounced export-oriented branches.
The industry leaders are Togliattiazot OJSC, Kuibyshevazot CJSC, Plastik OJSC, Promsintez OJSC, Togliattikauchuk LTD, Novokuibyshevsk oilchemical company CJSC, Neftekhimiya CJSC – may well become the core of a future chemical cluster, that will comprise about 400 companies of Samara Region.
There are two possible trends of chemical cluster development in future: export-oriented production and new sectors.
Export-oriented production will continue production of ammonia, nitrogen fertilizers, synthetic rubber, methanol. New production will deal with lower-weight products – sorbents, catalysts, absorbents etc., chemical waste disposal, expanding of artificial fertilizers line.
